Counselling and Psychotherapist, Specialising in Treating Addictions.
Ian Richards
Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Addiction Specialist
My counselling approach is called Person-Centred Therapy which is a humanistic style to counselling.
The approach endeavours to see the world through the eyes of the clients. Above all, it is about gaining an understanding of how an individual perceives and interprets events rather than the therapist being the expert.
My belief is that the client has the answers to their issues. However, these issues may be difficult to accept and understand due to various psychological blockages, which can prevent a greater understanding of them.

As one of my clients, I will seek to help you explore the thoughts or feelings that are troubling you while supporting you in an empathic and non-judgmental way. This is done while helping you to connect to the immediacy of your own experience.
Trust is something that is paramount within all counselling relationships. If a person can trust their therapist they are more open to discuss how they are truly feeling. This trust is a crucial element and is needed to allow a therapeutic alliance to occur.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP) and abide by their code of practice and Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. I am pretty sure the reason you are here is that just like millions of others you have had enough of feeling the way you do. This is where I can help.
