Ian Richards

My counselling approach is called Person-Centred Therapy which is a humanistic style to counselling.

The approach endeavours to see the world through the eyes of the clients. Above all, it is about gaining an understanding of how an individual perceives and interprets events rather than the therapist being the expert.

My belief is that the client has the answers to their issues. However, these issues may be difficult to accept and understand due to various psychological blockages, which can prevent a greater understanding of them.

As one of my clients, I will seek to help you explore the thoughts or feelings that are troubling you while supporting you in an empathic and non-judgmental way. This is done while helping you to connect to the immediacy of your own experience.

Trust is something that is paramount within all counselling relationships. If a person can trust their therapist they are more open to discuss how they are truly feeling. This trust is a crucial element and is needed to allow a therapeutic alliance to occur.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP) and abide by their code of practice and Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. Also, as a qualified Psychotherapist, I undertake continued professional development which is a requirement set out by the B.A.C.P and which I fully endorse.

I am also a fully trained Sex Addiction Therapist and a member of The Association for the Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity. (ATSAC).

I have been lucky enough to have Ian in my life for the last 8 months. It has been life changing in so many ways. His empathy alone has helped me so much , coupled with excellent advice and coping mechanisms to deal with the world. I cannot recommend Ian highly enough and struggle to find the right words to explain the enormous difference it has made to me.

I had very useful and productive therapy sessions with Ian. Opening up can be very tricky but he made me feel comfortable to do so from the beginning. His approach is sensitive and compassionate and done with utmost professionalism and sensitivity. I started to feel an improvement in my wellbeing after a few weeks and have adopted many of the techniques I learnt from the sessions in my every day life that continue to help me. I would highly recommend Ian as a therapist. Thank you for all your work.

I found Ian at a time of my life when I was struggling with problems around family relationships, stress at work and feelings of shame and guilt. We had a very good connection from the beginning and I felt comfortable to open up and share vulnerable things. Ian has the ability to listen deeply and be empathic. Also, he helped me to see issues from a different perspectives und understand myself much better. His advise was really helpful and I saw great improvement in the areas I was struggling in. I would recommend doing therapy with Ian wholeheartedly.

Entering into psychotherapy and counselling can be a stressful decision and deciding to talk to a stranger about your troubles can be difficult and daunting. Therapy can be challenging at times as you discover more about your deeper feelings. However, as you become more comfortable in the process it can be a life-changing experience leading you to your true authentic self.

I am pretty sure the reason you are here is that just like millions of others you have had enough of feeling the way you do. This is where I can help.
