Ian Richards - Psychotherapist and Addiction Specialist

I am a qualified Psychotherapist and I believe in the uniqueness of all individuals.

My approach is called Person-Centred Therapy, which is a humanistic style to counselling. The approach endeavours to see the world through the eyes of my clients. It is about understanding how an individual perceives and interprets events rather than the therapist being the expert.

The belief is that my client has the answers to their issues. However, these issues may be difficult to accept and understand due to psychological blockages which can prevent an understanding of them.

I will seek to help you explore the thoughts or feelings that are troubling you while supporting you in an empathic and non-judgmental way. This is done while helping you to connect to the immediacy of your own experience.

Trust is something that is paramount within all counselling relationships. If a person can trust their therapist they are more open to discuss how they are truly feeling. Trust is is a crucial element and is needed to allow a therapeutic alliance to occur.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP) and abide by their code of practice and Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.  As a qualified Psychotherapist, I undertake continued professional development which is a requirement set out by the B.A.C.P and which I fully endorse.

I am also a fully trained Sex Addiction Therapist and a member of The Association for the Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity. (ATSAC)

What are the next steps?

The first initial session is to see if we want to work together and for you to decide if I am the right person for you. I'll explain a little about how I work and then you can explain what bought you to therapy.

Sessions last 50 minutes allowing you enough time to explore the thoughts and feelings that you are struggling with. At the end of the session I offer 10 minutes guided meditation for those who wish to engage. There is no added cost to this.

Fees

My fees vary and range from £50 to £70 per session depending on the nature of the therapy. I am able to offer a discount for block bookings of six sessions. I am available weekdays and evenings between 9am and 8pm and Saturdays between 9am and 1pm.

I have therapy rooms in Solihull, Stratford upon Avon and Birmingham. I am also able to offer sessions via Zoom.

Please feel free to call me, in the strictest confidence, on 07465 226668, or email me at ian@ianrichardsbtj.com

Lotus Flower

The Lotus Flower

Otherwise known in Buddhism as the "Sacred Lotus", emerges from murky and muddy waters and grows into a beautiful blooming flower.

It represents our growth.

Since everything in life is but an experience perfect in being what it is, having nothing to do with good or bad, acceptance or rejection, one may well burst out in laughter.
