Couples Therapy
Is your relationship in turmoil?
Do you find that you and your partner are bickering and arguing more than you feel that you should?
Are you starting to feel distant and disconnected from each other, and perhaps struggling to get along? Have you both reached a place of uncertainty in your relationship?
When you and your partner struggle to get along until one of you, or perhaps both start asking questions about the relationship. Is he/she the right person for me? Is it time to move on? There is no doubt about it, relationships can be hard work and extremely challenging, especially if external issues get in the way.
Here are just a few reasons of why relationships break down.
- Poor Communication
- Conflict
- Work related issues
- Stress, anxiety and depression
- Loss of intimacy from either or both partners
- Betrayal
- Jealousy
- Erectile dysfunction
- Parenting
- Bereavement
- Addiction
- Money issues
One thing that happens in all of the above is button pressing. When we get angry, we want to stress our point and if our partner doesn’t want to accept our point and we don’t feel heard, we then resolve to button pressing mode, because we know what buttons to press with each other right? Of course, we do. However, amongst all of the challenges you both have with each other, there is a sense that you both want to save the relationship. To resolve your conflicts in a healthy, productive and positive way.
When you enter into couples’ therapy or couples counselling, whatever you choose to call it, we will first look at what has brought you to therapy.
When did it all start to go wrong and what do you want to achieve? You have both decided to enter therapy because you believe that your relationship has a chance otherwise you wouldn’t be looking for some help.
So, the second thing we do, is to learn about each other’s buttons and why we react when they are being pressed.
The Goal.
The ability to be able to rebuild the love and connection you once had and go back to the place where you both feel safe, understood and valued in the relationship? A place where you can move on and make new plans for your future - a better future - hand in hand - together.
If you would like to book an initial session to see if we can work together, or just want some further information please don’t hesitate to contact me.
